بہت خوش نصیب ہیں وہ لوگ جن کے شب و روز سید الانبیاء والمرسلین صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہٖ وسلم کی تعریف و توصیف کے بیان میں گزرتے ہیں۔ ایسے ہی خوش نصیب افراد میں ایک نام ڈاکٹر شہزاد احمد خان کا ہے۔ڈاکٹر صاحب کی نعت سے وابستگی نصف صدی پر محیط ہے۔جس پر بجا طور پر انھیں فخر بھی ہے ۔
شہزادؔ! میں بھی عاشقِ خیرالانام ہوں
ہاتھوں میں میرے دیکھیے دامانِ نعت ہے
فروغِ نعت کے حوالے سے ڈاکٹر صاحب کی خدمات کسی تعارف کی محتاج نہیں ہیں۔ آپ ۱۹۷۲ء سے ثناخوانی کررہے ہیں۔ مولانا اختر الحامدیؒ، علامہ سید محمد ہاشم فاضل شمسیؒ، مولانا عبدالقدوس قادریؒ، علامہ شمس بریلویؒ اور بابا سید رفیق عزیزی یوسفی تاجی ؒ جیسے بزرگوںکے آپ صحبت یافتہ ہیں۔ ایک اچھے نعت خواں اور نعت گو ہونے کے ساتھ ساتھ نعتیہ کتابوں کے مصنف و مرتب،تذکرہ نگار، نعتیہ رسائل کے مدیر، نعتیہ ادب کے محقق ، فروغِ نعت کے لیے قائم متعدد تنظیموں کے بانی اور نعتیہ کانفرنسوں اور جلسوں کے منتظم بھی ہیں۔
ڈاکٹر صاحب کا ایک بڑا کام ـ’’اردو نعت پاکستان میں‘‘ (نعتیہ شاعری کا تحقیقی جائزہ پاکستان کے خصوصی حوالے سے) کے عنوان سے وہ تحقیقی مقالہ ہے جس پر جامعہ کراچی نے انھیں پی ایچ۔ڈی۔ کی سند عطا کی ہے۔ اس سے نعتیہ ادب کے فروغ میں آپ کی محنت، تحقیق ، جستجو اور لگن کا اندازہ کیا جاسکتا ہے۔
عصر ِ حاضر میں نہ صرف حمدیہ و نعتیہ موضوعات پر ملکی و غیر ملکی جامعات میں ایم۔فل۔اور پی ایچ۔ڈی کی سطح پر تحقیقی مقالات لکھے جارہے ہیں بلکہ حمدو نعت سے وابستہ شخصیات بھی تحقیقی مقالات کا موضوع بن رہی ہیں۔ فروغِ نعت کے حوالے سے ڈاکٹر شہزاد صاحب کی خدمات یقینا اس لائق ہیں کہ انھیں...

The Aligarh Miracle

Social movements are considered to be a modern phenomenon but they have existed in the past as well. Aligarh movement initiated by Sir Sayyid Ahmed khan is a typical social movement from 19th century, aimed at modernization and uplift of the Muslim community of India. It emerged in a period when the Indian Muslims were facing a sharp decline in their socio-economic and political status. This decline had created a psychology of retreat among them wherein they suspected any attempt to reform their lot. For instance, the introduction of modern education by the British rulers was adopted by the Hindu majority for obvious economic benefits. Conversely, the Muslims remained wary of modern education, particularly the English language as a conspiracy to destroy their age-old culture and religion. In this backdrop Sir Sayyid Ahmed Khan’s tireless drive to inculcate modern education proved to be a miracle that transformed the Muslim middle classes for the next century. Although Aligarh movement has attracted tremendous scholarship, there has been virtually little attempt to theorize it as a social movement. In this context the present paper aims to study Aligarh Movement on the parameters of contemporary theories highlighting the causal dimensions of social movements. It will particularly explore the relevance of the elements of deprivation, resource mobilization, political processes, structural strain and those highlighted by the new social movement theory as causal factors in the emergence and evolution of Aligarh Movement.

Role of Hec in Promoting and Facilitating Educational Research in Pakistani Universities

This study explores the role of the Higher Education Commission CHEC) of Pakistan in facilitating and promoting educational research in Pakistani universities through policy analysis as research methodology. The role has been explored by the analysis of policy provisions, structures and processes developed by HEC to facilitate and promote educational research. Experiences of two Pakistani universities, one from public and one from private sector- has been analysed to explore that role. Analysis of the data suggests that research is a priority of HEC in its reform agenda for higher education in Pakistan. HEC has developed policy provisions, processes and structures that support and facilitate research in Pakistani universities but an overemphasis on scientific research has overshadowed educational research. Availability of funding, a wide range of incentives available for research, faculty development process for research, emphasis on publications and dissemination of research work, access to the global body of knowledge through IT integration and education, and research networks are indication of the effective role played by HEC for the promotion and facilitation of educational research. Research suggests that there exist some hindering factors as well which includes, dependency on donor funding and sustainability issues, communication gap between departments of education at universities and HEC, unavailability of clear policy text for educational research, lesser support provided to the private sector. Based on the findings, the study recommends development of indigenous funding strategy, enhanced collaboration and participation of universities through communicative structures, an increase in educational research funding, enhanced facilitation to private sector and wide range of evaluative studies to be carried out to review policy provisions and structural changes to facilitate educational research in Pakistani universities. In the end a post script comments on the post 18th amendment situation created by the dissolution of HEC.
