المبحث الأول: ممیزات أشعار نازك الملائکۃ
یوجد في شعر نازک الملائکۃ ’’القیمۃ الفعلیۃ‘‘ وھذہ القیمۃ لا تتمثل في أن شعرھا قابل للتقلید أو أخذہ کنموذج مثالي یقتدي بہ من بعدھا الآخرون، ولکن المیزۃ الممتازہ في شعرھا بأن لدیھا القدرۃ علی التحرر من العاطفۃ والرومانسیۃ وما إلی ذلک۔
ویذکر شوقي بزیغ في مجلۃ العدد’’ وقد تکون تربیۃ نازک المحافظۃ ونشأتھا في أسرہ متعلقۃ بأھداب القیم الموروثۃ ھي من بین العوامل التي دفعتھا إلی احترام العادات والتقالید المحیطۃ لھا من کل جانب، وعلی الرغم من إقامتھا الطویلۃ في أمریکا فنحن لا نلمع في شعرھا ما یشي بالتجرؤ علی الأعراف السائدۃ وتجاوز المحظورات لابل إننا نکاد لا نعرف شيئاً عن حیاتھا الخاصۃ أو عن علاقاتھا العاطفیۃ التي سبقت الزواج‘‘ ۔
فیذکر شوقي بزیغ لا بد من الاعتراف بأن نازک، بسبب النشأۃ أو الخوف أو مکانۃ المرأۃ العربیۃ أو بعض الظروف الاجتماعیۃ لم تسمح للشاعرۃ أن تتعمق في الحداثۃ أو بما تکون الحالۃ الاجتماعیۃ أو مکانتھا أو عادات البيئة العربیۃ والواقع العربي والعراقي بوجہ خاص وقد تکون ھذہ الظروف نفسھا ھي التي لونت معظم قصائدھا بلون الحزن والألم ، وجعلت الموت یحتل موقعاً متعلقاً في نظرتھا، ولکن الجانب الإیجابي یحجب علی حزنھا ویظھر الجانب الآخر وھي قدرتھا علی تحویل حزنھا إلی مادۃ للتأمل الھادئ والتبصر العمیق والتعجب في الحیاۃ وفي أحوال النفس وأسرارھا، وھو ما تکمن ملاحظتہ في قصائدھا مثل "أجراس سوداء" و "مرثیۃ یوم تامہ" و "الشخص الثاني" و "الخیط المشدود في شجرۃ السرو" وغیرھا ۔ نلاحظ أن معظم قصائدھا ملون بلون الحزن والألم وقد تکون أسبابھا لیست ظاھرۃ ولکن ربما یکون ھناک سر مختبيئ في قلب الشاعرہ، وھي لا تستطیع إظھارہ وذلک بسبب حالة من الحالات أو بسبب ظروف معینۃ ویتضح ألمھا الداخلي ونظرتھا الی الوجود والأشیاء، بأنھا فانیة لا حیاۃ لھا۔

Nigerian Politics and Politics in Nigeria: A Contemplation of Islamic Political Thought in Nigeria

Democracy in Nigeria is characterised by corruption, irregularities and injustice. The level of political hostility in the country has resulted in loss of lives and properties and as a result, there have been hindrances to peace and national development to prevail in Nigeria. Hence, the ugly political developments have generated a lot of concerns and questions such as what are the causes of the political unrest in Nigeria? Is democracy really paying off as a political system in Nigeria?  What has been the result of democracy in Nigeria?  Can there be a better political system in Nigeria? If so, can Islamic political system fulfil the longing of Nigerians? Answers to these questions shall form the body of this research. The research discovers the absence of fairness in the electoral process and bad governance in Nigeria. This research reveals the flaws in effectiveness of democracy as a system of government in Nigeria. It proposes adopting an alternative model of governance. Lastly, this research contemplates the Islamic political model for a better Nigeria.

Sequencing and Analysis of a Cdna Encoding a Putative Coclaurine N-Methyltransferase Cnmt from Aristolochia Fimbriata, a Basal Angiosperm

Alkaloids are produced in plants through various pathways involving several enzymes that lead to diverse alkaloids. One of the most important alkaloid biosynthetic enzymes is coclaurine N-methyltransferase (CNMT) which is an S-adenosyl-L- methionine-dependent methyltransferase (SAM-MTase). SAM-MTases utilize S- adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) as a cofactor to methylate other molecules. CNMT catalyzes the methylation of coclaurine. Crystal structures of more than hundred SAM-MTases have been investigated. Several O-methyltransferases have been characterized at the molecular as well as structural levels, but there have been very few molecular studies of N-methyltransferases especially about CNMTs. In this study, the amino acids sequence of Aristolochia fimbriata putative CNMT has been determined by isolating and translating the full-length cDNA. In order to investigate the mechanism of methylation by this putative CNMT, three-dimensional homology model has been built and the ligand (SAM) as well as the substrate (S- Coclaurine) has been docked into its active site. Phylogenetic analyses were performed using the MEGA 4.0 software. The phylogenetic relationship of A. fimbriata putative CNMT with their homologs has also been analyzed. In order to identify the putative CNMT gene and determine its function, online similarity searches were performed by BLAST program using the cDNA sequence as well as the putative protein that could be encoded by the gene. All the methods, applied, predicted that the gene identified might be involved in the production of CNMT. The predicted homology model consists of two domains: the N-terminal catalytic core domain and the C-terminal domain. The catalytic core domain has a central sheet of β-strands surrounded by α helices. The catalytic core domain contains binding site for VSAM. The C-terminal domain consists of alpha helices and a few beta sheets creating a pocket for the substrate in between them. The SAM-binding pocket is located next to substrate binding pocket and there is an opening in between these two cavities through which the methyl group of SAM projects towards the substrate. The most important residues involved in the methyl transfer reaction seem to be Tyr-79 and Glu-96.
